Loja Ecuador

Loja is the capital of Ecuador's Loja Province. It is located in the Cuxibamba valley in the south of the country, sharing borders with the provinces of Zamora-Chinchipe and El Oro, and with Peruin the south. Loja holds a rich tradition in the arts, and for this reason is known as the Music and Cultural Capital of Ecuador. The city is home to two major universities. The Pan-American Highway runs past Loja. MAIN TOURIST ATTRACTIONS • Pio Jaramillo Alvarado Museum of Music of the Central Culture. It contains permanent exhibits on lojano music and composers, a concert hall, an area for temporary exhibits, a cafeteria, and a small music shop. • Madres Conceptas Museum • Museum of the Central Bank of Ecuador. This archeological museum focuses on the colonial history of the area. • Lojanidad Archeological Museum • Door of the City Museum. This museum seeks to recreate the history of the city, but also has exhibits showcasing local painting, sculpture, and photography. • Jardín Botánico Reinaldo Espinosa. There are over 800 native and exotic species. It is a living laboratory for scientific research and environmental education.
