Isabela Island, Galápagos Islands Ecuador

Isabela Island is the largest of the Galápagos Islands, covering around 4,640 square kilometres (1,790 sq mi) and stretching roughly 100 kilometres (62 mi) in length, making it almost four times bigger than Santa Cruz, the archipelago’s second-largest island. Named after Queen Isabella I of Castile, the island lies across the equator. It was originally called Albemarle Island, a name given in 1684 by Ambrose Cowley, one of the first European visitors to set foot on the islands, in honour of the Duke of Albemarle.
